Finally after years of off and on attempts, and breaks to work on other tasks in order to keep sane, I was able to get the initial system down where the loot drop nameplates are automatically nudged from their origin to ensure the labels don't overlap(diablo,grim dawn).
Requiring 360 camera rotation as well as pitch and zoom made it an especially pleasurable task since each one of those variables potentially changes the layout of labels on the 2D screen anchored to the items in 3D space. For funsies, I put together a demo scene and imported a few of the features i've previously created to have an eye pleasing environment to work in while I polish bits.
