Katie is a single mother who works at a chemical plant. Her husband has left her and their 7-year-old daughter Lisa, leaving them to rely on each other. One day, the heavily repressed Katie meets Paco, a Spanish man who also works at the plant. They quickly fall deeply in love and soon have a son named Ricky.
