The standard shield was fitted to all 9-3s from (I think) 2005 model year.
If your car does not have one, seriously, go get one.
People (ie garages) often leave them out after changing the cabin filter.
The standard shield is made of 0.7mm ABS sheet. Make one out of a sheet of thin plastic if you can't get one. Come back here in a few days and I'll measure up mine and make a downloadable template.
