This is one of many interstitials we created for TCM in their Race & Hollywood series back around 2003-2004. Hard to believe that actors as famous as Shirley Temple, Fred Astaire and Al Jolson performed with blackface in films. Oddly "blackface" is still relevant today in 2019. Bill Cosby and historian Donald Bogle discuss Amos and Andy and the films The Jazz Singer (1927), Check and Double Check (1930), The Littlest Rebel (1935), and more. TCM Writer/Producer Jean Franz produced the interviews and handled post production supervision. The super cool intro and ending graphics were created by Eric Defino at Ray Gun. The interviews were directed by Jean Franz between 2000 and 2004.
