What is Focusrite AIR? - More than EQ...
AIR mode on your Focusrite Scarlett, Clarett, or Clarret+ interface is MORE THAN JUST EQ.
The Focusrite AIR sound began when Rupert Neve founded Focusrite in 1985 and built the first set of ISA preamp / EQ modules to extend the channels on a custom console he built for Sir George Martin's AIR Studios.
After some financial difficulties, a new Focusrite emerged under the direction of Phil Dudderidge, the concert sound mixer for Led Zeplin and cofounder of Soundcraft. Ten new Focusrite consoles based on the ISA 110 preamps/EQ were built and were used with some of the most well know artists in music history.
From artists like Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, and more, Focusrite consoles with the AIR sound are part of music history.
But AIR is more than simply EQ, it's a unique analogue sound the Focusrite has recreated using digitally controlled analogue circuitry in their Scarlett, Clarett, and Clarett+ interfaces. I compared the sound of these interfaces to an original recording and an AIR simulation done with EQ. Listen and discover the sound of AIR.
