This cultural colorful event brings people together to splash each other with water, pay respects to their elders, and welcome the new year with joy and enthusiasm.
The real meaning behind the splashes is to symbolically wash off all misfortunes in the past year, thus welcoming the new year with a fresh start. The Meaning of the White Powder: This is another ritual to ward off evil spirits and to give protection to the wearer. Thai people normally mix a white powder with water and wipe it across your cheeks; leaving a white smear.
