Interpretation -- an explanation based on information or personal experiences.
Hold interpretations as tentative. They can change!

Multiple perspectives.
Compare differing sets of ideas, values, personalities, behaviors, and institutions.
Evaluate debates among historians.
Compare competing historical narratives.

Cause and effect
Challenge arguments of inevitability.
Hypothesize the influence of the past.
