Sisters Carmen Rodriguez and Gina Madera own Brooklyn Cupcake, a popular bakery located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The business was heralded as the “Best Cupcake” in New York City by the New York Daily News, and the sisters appeared on Food Network's "Cooking in America" and "Cupcake Wars." Their popularity skyrocketed, and so did the need for additional financing - that's where OnDeck came in to help.

Carmen Rodriguez CEO and Founder of Brooklyn Cupcake. I'm Gina Madera and I am the co-owner of Brooklyn Cupcake. The idea of the business came about because I found myself unemployed, finding a job was kind of difficult. I was at a company where I was baking every month for birthdays, everyone said to me, Carmen, if there's any way that you can pursue this love of
baking we would encourage you to do so because we love your stuff. At that point I've always taken my sister and pulled her in and one day we start at my dining room table writing everything own, my mom's in the house with us, she says I hear you two talking, are you serious? Of course we're serious, we want to figure out how to make this work for us. So she turns around and she says, I'm gonna give you my 401k and make it all that you can make it. I said mom we're gonna take it and make it work she gave us everything she had and we knew we had to make it work. There it is 8 years later we're still floating, we're still doing good, a lot of people know our name and she very proud. Having cashflow challenges can put somebody in position of almost wanting to have a mental breakdown. I chose OnDeck because I am a huge Shark Tank fan, and Barbara Corcoran was on and hey guys if you need this, and I was like, what do you think sis you think this is right? Sure enough that's exactly what happened, so we picked up the phone and gave
them a call. So I submitted all my paperwork that probably took only a day to gather, they they don't ask for a huge list of documents, and I'm gonna tell you that I probably had an answer within the
next day and the funds were in my account the next day, after that and unlike the banks I hear for my rep every 6 months or so, hey do you need anything, how's everything going? We used the funds
to acquire new equipment when we were able to implement those things we were able to acquire more sales. I'm grateful to OnDeck because it's given us the opportunity to have our name go nationwide, so across the United States they know us, that was a big opportunity that OnDeck was able to provide for us.
