Understanding Text, Context and Medium
Text and Context is the relationship between a text and the world around it.
In other words, it is about how a text fits into the culture and has ideas relating to both the time of writing and contemporary reading.
The medium also affects how a story is constructed and interpreted.
Why Context?
Studying context involves analysing the relationship a text has with the world.
No text can be fully understood when isolated from the world around it. Nor can a text be interpreted consistently and universally.
Text and context in the BOS requires you to interpret and analyse what informs a ‘reading’, as well as how interpretation is considered differently according to a number of factors.
