Pnr South Commuter Railway Update
Philippine National Railways (PNR) Calamba-Alabang line will shut down operations on July 2, 2023 to make way for North-South Commuter Railway; will resume after 5 years.
The Philippine National Railways (PNR) said the construction for the South Commuter Railway Project from Tutuban to Calamba City in Laguna will begin next month.
Daily trips of the Philippine National Railway's (PNR) Alabang to Calamba route will halt on July 2 to make way for the construction of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) system.
The project will be built for five years and the first segment PNR stations will be temporarily unavailable: Alabang, Muntinlupa, San Pedro, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, Cabuyao, Mamatid, and Calamba.
The new NSCR system will replace the current street-level, single-track, and diesel locomotive set-up of the PNR.An elevated, double-track and electrified train system will be built directly above the existing PNR tracks.
The new Pnr will be one of the most modern rail systems in Southeast Asia and will get financial and technical support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Asian Development Bank.
The Department of Transportation hopes that the North-South Commuter Railway will bring quality transportation service.
Once the project is completed, PNR will be able to ferry 800,000 passengers everyday
Travel time on the entire length of the railway system will be cut in half, from four hours to two hours
