Sparrow And The Workshop perform 'Broken Hearts Broken Home' for The Crypt Sessions

This weeks Crypt Session comes from Sparrow And The Workshop.
Imagine kidnapping Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski from Streetcar Named Desire, dumping them in the Yuma desert and then asking Sergio Leone to film the fallout. The resulting movies soundtrack could only be by Sparrow And The Workshop. The Glasgow-based trio mix galloping surf rhythms with haunting melodies and a love of dark Southern Gothic tales to construct some of the finest contemporary folk youre likely to hear outside the Fleet Foxes den.
Chicagoan Jill OSullivan (vocals, violin), Welshman Nick Packer (bass, guitar) and Scot Gregor Donaldson (drums, vocals) only joined forces in 2008 but already Sparrow And The Workshop have toured with British Sea Power and Idlewild and built an ecstatic following amongst the critical elite. The Guardian described their sound as captivating.ethereal and electric. The List said they were, downright brilliant, with songs about the devil, broken homes, foes, jealousy, crimes of love and gun-packin delivered profoundly by a trio of old souls. Drowned In Sound even went so far as to suggest that the band might do for folk what The Strokes did for rock n roll and gave their e.p., Into The Wild, 9/10.
