Sirui 40mm T1.8 Cine Anamorphic AF Sample Footage | Sony A7IV
Here’s some sample footage I got in NYC - Every frame was captured through the Sirui 40mm anamorphic AF lens. While I found the AF to be pretty unreliable, actually enjoyed shooting with this lens.
It’s designed for APSC, but it still covers a full frame sensor - this allowed me to effectively get 2 focal lengths out of this thing when shooting in FF / APSC on my A7IV. You get a lot less barrel distortion and vignetting when shooting in APSC mode, but I actually prefer the look this lens brings in Full Frame!
I really like the images coming out of this lens - it’s sharp, but has some pleasing lens distortion and in my opinion, really nice flaring that’s well-controlled most of the time. As I mentioned, the autofocus is pretty poor - lot’s of hunting and not very responsive to touch tracking - it’s also really loud.
If you want to buy this lens strictly for the autofocus functionality, don’t do it. Maybe the AF will improve with a firmware update, but don’t bank on it.
That said, if you like these images and you want a versatile full frame / apsc anamorphic lens with a 1.33x squeeze, this is not a bad option.
