The majority of New Eden is split into three main categories, known as High, Low, and Null Security space. This security level of your current system can be seen in the upper left of your in-game HUD. Highsec is where you begin your journey and is defined as systems with a security level from 0.5 to 1.0. Aggressive actions against other pilots in this space will elicit a response from deadly CONCORD police vessels. Venturing out into systems between 0.4 and 0.1 (Lowsec) or 0.0 and below (Nullsec) can be considerably more dangerous as you will be at the whim of other players seeking a fight. That isn't to say this space is without rewards, though. Mission payouts are typically much higher, NPC pirates become stronger with higher bounties, and the wide world of PvP combat opens itself up for you to step into.
