What Virginians should know about the upcoming 2023 election on November 7

For the first time since 2019, all 140 seats in the Virginia General Assembly will be on the ballot this November — 100 of them are in the Republican-controlled House of Delegates, and 40 are in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

What's at stake is party control of the state, which will have a ripple effect on major issues, like abortion and gun control, as well as on Gov. Glenn Youngkin's political career and potentially future presidential elections.

Preston Steger, 13News Now's Senior Digital Content Producer, spoke with Dr. Rebecca Bromley-Trujillo, the Research Lab Director for The Wason Center at Christopher Newport University, about what Virginians should know about the upcoming 2023 Virginia general election.
