Last summer, as the whole world watched the unrest in Jerusalem and Gaza, there was another conflict in Palestine that remained underexposed. Far out of sight of all the cameras, a battle is unfolding among the olive trees surrounding Mount Sabih, in the village of documentary filmmaker Sakir Khader's great-grandparents.
On the outskirts of Beita, a village in the West Bank near the city of Nablus, residents have been battling settlers and the Israeli army around the occupation of Mount Sabih.
On the mountain, many Palestinian farmers have land with olive trees. If the mountain is taken by settlers, the farmers will lose their land, and with it a large part of their annual income.
Settlers occupy the mountain and build an illegal settlement of makeshift caravans and houses there thanks to generous donors. The settlers also construct an electricity and water network and asphalt the roads.
Under international law, this settlement is illegal. But the settlers refuse to leave and are even protected by the Israeli army.
Sakir Khader captures how the residents of his great-grandparents' village try to reclaim the mountain.
