Unveiled just last week after a short 6-year development run, South Korea's new KF-21 "Boramae" is an interesting development in modern fighter jets, almost a combination of an F/A-18 Super Hornet, and F-22 Raptor. Despite looking very similar to the latter, performance of the KF-21 is more akin to that of the Hornet, with many domestically designed technologies, easing South Korea's dependence on foreign exports from nations like the US. Despite budget constraints in partnering Indonesia which have resulted in the nation's failure to keep up payments for the jet, the KF-21 is expected to perform test flights starting next year, and enter service some time in late 2026, supplementing the ROKAF as a capable 4.5th gen fighter
