Soma creates a unique kind of horror by forcing us to answer questions that we couldn't possibly know the answers to. Then making us live with our answers, and constantly having us questioning our philosophy that led us to them. If horror is the fear of the unknown, then Soma is the fear of what can't be known.

I'll be waxing philosophical a bit in this one.
