This is your opportunity to work like a NASA engineer! Through this challenge, students can research, design, build and test their solutions to ensure a safe passage for their spherical robot.
Why?
First responders must go through this very process to ensure that their unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can detect and avoid obstacles to deliver lifesaving assistance. Natural disasters like wildfires and hurricanes can lead to many lives lost and billions of dollars in costs across the United States each year.
To help reduce that impact, UAVs have great potential to assist emergency responders by making their interventions even faster, more targeted, and better able to adapt to changing circumstances. In this challenge, your spherical robot simulates a UAV entering a natural disaster zone, and the maze and obstacles simulate the real-life problems first responders encounter in the field.
