Lets talk about networks in consumer VS enterprise networking gear. There is a HUGE difference in the reliability and support of a product at the end of the day when comparing consumer VS enterprise networking gear but there can also be a significant gap between the pricing as well. When looking at higher end gaming routers that are far from cheap you may want to also consider something in the prosumer and entry enterprise market like Ubiquiti. Most people know Ubiquiti from their wifi products. Ubiquiti makes lots of enterprise wi-fi access points that are both fast and stable while supporting lots of connected clients and fast roaming. Ubiquiti used to only make the security gateways, which were underpowered for faster internet connections while enabling intrusion detection and prevention systems.
With the release of the Unifi Dream Machine (UDM) and the Unifi Dream Machine Pro (UDM Pro) you can now have IDS/IPS enabled and still have fast Internet speeds. Previously to this these advanced features were only avbailable in super expensive enterprise networking gear. While Ubiquiti does make other networking devices as well like switches they also make consumer routers like the amplifi hd and alien Wi-Fi 6 routers with mesh nodes. These may be great options for those who want something between a full Unifi network and their last gaming router and can easily expand my adding a wifi ap or wireless access point. I will say that I've had the best wifi and most stable since I switched to a full Ubiquiti unifi system. The only switch I have that is NOT Unifi is my NetGear multigig 10GbE switch and that's just because Ubiquiti doesn't have anything like it yet, otherwise I would have bought one. When I used to run a USG I had to run my own unifi controller. For some this might put people off from getting a USG at home, but again the UDM remedies this potential road block for most users. Running a mesh network can be more stable and faster than just getting a wifi booster of the shelf at a big box store. The udm pro does NOT have built in wifi however it does support adding a hard drive for unifi surveillance if you decide to go that route. You can easily add a ubiquiti access point to any unifi network system.
