Hi again. It's been a while since I uploaded a music video, let alone an original. There's a pretty good reason for this behind the scenes, but maybe I'll have the opportunity to tell you about that in the future - for now, here's a new piece I wrote.
So I'm really bad at giving myself tasks. As such, I'm typically garbage at coming up with original music unless its a commission or project for a client. I'm not sure if this is a toxic trait or not.
Anyway, I wrote this based on the prompt I gave myself of "insurmountable foe". As I was coming up with ideas based on that prompt, it began to more so take the aesthetic of "insurmountable foe but in space apparently". I'm beginning to sense a pattern in the way I write music like this... I wanted to come up with a title equally as interesting and as silly as "Battle With a Non-Euclidean Foe", which is the last high energy original I wrote. I'm not sure if "Battle Outside of Linear Time" is quite that dumb, but it's still pretty nonsensical.
The music itself is based on an idea inspired by the songs "Detox" by Strapping Young Lad, and "Doomsday Zone" from Sonic 3. I always really liked the idea of incorporating a chromatic climbing riff thing to write something melodic around - so that's basically what this entire track is. I think it's cool anyway.
Rachel as per usual was tasked with coming up with visuals for this complete non-sequitur of a theme I invented out of thin air. We incorporated some designs from some talented artists we were commissioning for merch a few years ago; they're linked below - be sure to check out their work!! I think her idea was kind of a 3-phase video game boss battle (in space) at the conclusion of a very long JRPG you've nearly 100% completed, or something. You'd have to ask her - but use your imagination!!
