The expression "anti-Semite," referring to someone who hates Jews so much that he seeks to destroy them, appeared in the second half of the nineteenth century, when a very famous Jewish publicist in Germany wrote that the Jewish question no longer existed. He sincerely believed that the problem of hatred of the Jews was a thing of the past, that the Jews were integrating into society and that nothing remained of these former problems. How wrong he was!
