The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a prescribed basket of goods that is used to measure America's inflation. Some of the underlying assumptions however are cryptic, arbitrary (what is Owners Equivalent Rent?), and unfortunately lead to the conclusion that the common person (does this even exist?) doesn't want to be wealthy.
