Looking for an easy winter painting idea? Want to do a fun seasonal DIY project? Let me be your acrylic art instructor as I teach you easy step-by-step instructions throughout this fun beginner art video as you learn how to paint snowflakes and learn to paint snow—a cool, crisp and chilly painting “SNOWFLAKES” with acrylic paint. Ever heard the phrase “There are no two snowflakes alike”? Well, do know why that is? I had no idea until I thought about painting snowflakes close-up and was looking for artistic inspiration and wondered if there was really any truth behind this iconic saying. So, using my Google skills, I learned that a man named Wilson Bentley took over 5000 photographs of snowflakes using a microscopic-bellows camera and learned that none of the snowflakes were identical. Science then figured out that snow crystals are temperature sensitive and will change in both shape and design as they fall from the clouds being exposed to fluctuating temperatures, making it impossible for two to be exactly alike. This got me really excited about doing this painting because snowflakes are all about geometrical designs, and, because there are infinite design possibilities, each of us as artists will have a total creative license to paint the snowflake in any shape and design we want! I’ve mentioned this a few times during my art tutorials that I really enjoy painting shapes, lines, patterns and designs. It’s very relaxing for me and feels effortless. That’s probably why I find some artists’ artwork to be mesmerizing, such as, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Kazimir Malevich, Wassily Kandinsky, and Piet Mondrian, just to name a few. So, if you enjoy Christmas, snow, snowflakes, magical colors, ice, icicles or drawing shapes and lines, then join me and learn how to paint a closeup of a snowflake in the snow. The painting process for this beginner art lesson is so simple. In the first step to this acrylic art lesson, you’ll learn how to paint a background using wintery colors in order to capture the magic of the oncoming winter season. Then you’ll learn how to paint a close-up view of snow using a simple stippling of dabbing technique. The you’ll learn the first step to painting a snowflake by using a base coat to draw a design using simple geometric shapes, such as, triangles, circles, squares and ovals. Then you’ll add texture and form to the snowflakes with highlight and shadows to the edges, giving it a 3-D appearance like a photograph. Then you’ll add some color to the inside of the shapes, to make them look like panes of glass, or crystals reflecting a prism of rainbow colors. The art lesson is so easy to follow, you’ll feel like it’s a paint by numbers. Have fun and create the perfect canvas wall art to spark the imagination. Not just the perfect Christmas painting or Holiday painting, but an easy painting for beginners. Using only 2 brushes, and 5 colors, you’ll paint like a professional and create the best canvas painting in the world! Have a date night, paint party, paint and sip event, or virtual paint night. Paint with gouache, oil paint, or watercolor, any medium will work! Paint just for fun or for art therapy. It's an easy art project for anyone. I hope you enjoy watching this YouTube art video and let's get painting and let's get sipping!
